Application Guide for 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship of SISU

. Introduction

To advance exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in various fields, the Chinese Government has established scholarships to sponsor outstanding international students and scholars to study or conduct research at institutions of higher education in China. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Sichuan International Studies University is designated to enroll Chinese Government Scholarship students.

Ⅱ. Programs

1. Bilateral Program (Chinese Government Scholarship A)

This scholarship is provided in accordance with cooperation and exchange agreements or consensus reached between the Chinese government and relevant foreign governments and institutions. Applicants must submit applications to the designated accepting authorities in their home countries. The program enrolls undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, and general visiting scholars.

2. High-Level Postgraduate Program (Chinese Government Scholarship B)

Applicants submit applications directly to SISU. After examinations and assessments, the university recommends outstanding candidates to the China Scholarship Council (CSC), which selects qualified applicants through expert review. The program enrolls master's students and doctoral students.

Ⅴ. Eligibility Requirements

1. Non-Chinese citizens, in good physical and mental health

2. Academic Qualifications, Age, and Language Requirements

(1) Applicants for undergraduate programs: Must have an educational background equivalent to a high school diploma with excellent academic performance; under 25 years old; Except for Chinese Language and Literature bachelors degree candidates (no Chinese proficiency requirement), other programs require HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above; Exceptionally outstanding applicants in professional competence may be relaxed to HSK Level 4 with a score of 180 or above, and SISU may arrange one-year Chinese language training if necessary.

(2) Applicants for master's programs: Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent with excellent academic performance; under 35 years old; Chinese proficiency should reach HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above; Exceptionally outstanding applicants in professional competence may be relaxed to HSK Level 4 with a score of 180 or above, and SISU may arrange one-year Chinese language training if necessary.

(3) Applicants for doctoral programs: Must have a master's degree or equivalent with excellent academic performance; under 40 years old; Chinese proficiency should  reach HSK Level 6 with a score of 180 or above; Exceptionally outstanding applicants in professional competence may be relaxed to HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above, and SISU may arrange one-year Chinese language training if necessary.

(4) General visiting scholars: Must have a high school diploma or above; no Chinese proficiency requirement; under 45 years old.

3. Requirements for China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)

(1) Test Takers

Starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, applicants for undergraduate degree programs at SISU must take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)" before submitting their applications. The test score is one of the essential materials for admission review.

(2) Test Subjects

CSCA scores are an important reference for SISU to evaluate applicants' academic abilities, so please prepare carefully. To ensure a smooth application process, it is recommended to take the CSCA as early as possible and submit the score in time for subsequent review procedures.

Two mandatory subjects are required: Professional Chinese and Mathematics. If a valid HSK Level 4 score report can be provided, applicants for the Bachelor degree in Chinese language can be exempted from taking the professional Chinese exam.

(3) Test Language

The Mathematics test provides Chinese and English versions. Applicants can choose the paper language according to the teaching language requirements.

(4) Applicants must also meet the admission requirements of SISU in terms of academic ability and other relevant aspects

Ⅵ.Application Procedures

1. Bilateral Program (Chinese Government Scholarship A)

(1) Applicants must contact the designated accepting authorities in their home country to obtain recommendation eligibility.

(2) All international students applying for undergraduate programs at Sichuan International Studies University must take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)". For detailed introduction and registration methods of CSCA, please visit the official website (www.csca.cn).

(3) Applicants log in to the "Chinese Government Scholarship for International Students Management Information System" (http://www.campuschina.org), fill in the "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form" online and submit the required application materials.

(4) The designated accepting authorities submits the list of recommended candidates and application materials to the CSC.

(5) The CSC dispatches admission applications to SISU based on the applicants' preferences.

(6) Applicants log in to the "Sichuan International Studies University International Student Service Platform" to apply online and submit the required application materials.

(7) SISU reviews the application materials, conducts professional examinations or assessments for applicants, submits the proposed admission list to the CSC for review. CSC notifies the designated accepting authorities of the admission results, and the agency informs the applicants.

(8) The application deadline is subject to the notification of the relevant  accepting authorities.

2. High-Level Postgraduate Program (Chinese Government Scholarship B)

(1) Applicants log in to the "Sichuan International Studies University International Student Service Platform" to apply online and submit the required application materials.

(2) SISU reviews the application materials, conducts professional examinations or assessments for applicants, and issues pre-admission notices to the proposed admitted students.

(3) Applicants log in to the "Chinese Government Scholarship for International Students Management Information System" to upload application materials and submit scholarship applications. The university code of SISU in the system is 10650.

(4) SISU recommends the proposed admitted students to CSC, which organizes expert reviews and selects qualified applicants.

(5) The application deadline is January 31, 2026.

. Application Documents

1. "Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship" (filled in Chinese or English)

2. Scanned copy of the first page of the passport

Applicants must submit a clear scanned copy of the first page of their passport whose validity period should be later than the expected graduation or completion date (September 2030). If the validity period of the passport is less than 12 months (calculated from the expected start date of study), please renew the passport in time and use the new passport to complete the scholarship application. For applicants who cannot apply for a passport before submitting the application due to objective reasons, with the permission of the relevant accepting authorities, they may submit valid documents or certificates containing information such as their "English name, gender, nationality, and date of birth".

3. Notarized highest academic diploma

 If the applicant is a current student, they must submit a certificate of expected graduation or enrollment issued by their attending school (in Chinese or English; if in a language other than the two languages, an additional notarized Chinese or English version is required).

4. Academic transcripts

Transcripts must be issued and sealed by the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, or relevant student management department (in Chinese or English; if in a language other than the two languages, an additional notarized Chinese or English version is required).

(1) Applicants for undergraduate programs: Must provide transcripts from the high school stage to the latest semester.

(2) Applicants for master's programs: Must provide transcripts from the undergraduate stage to the latest semester.

(3) Applicants for doctoral programs: Must provide complete transcripts from the undergraduate stage and transcripts from the master's stage to the latest semester.

5. Language proficiency certificate

Applicants for master's, doctoral, general visiting scholar, and senior visiting scholar programs taught in Chinese must provide a valid HSK score report that meets the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements.

6. China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) transcript

Applicants for undergraduate programs must register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline and obtain a valid transcript. For the mandatory test subjects required by the applied majors, please refer to the attachment.

7. Study or research plan in China

A Chinese or English study plan (more than 1000 words) must be submitted. Doctoral students' plans must be signed by a Chinese supervisor. The study plan can only be written in Chinese or English.

8. Recommendation letters (in Chinese or English Only)

(1) Applicants for master's and doctoral programs: Must submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors (indicating the work unit, professional title, position, and contact information). The content should focus on the requirements for the applicant's study objectives in China, the cooperation between the Chinese university or Chinese supervisor and foreign supervisors, or inter-university exchange status, as well as evaluations of the student's comprehensive abilities and future development.

(2) Applicants for undergraduate programs: Must submit a recommendation letter issued by the high school.

9. For applicants under 18 years old: Must submit relevant legal documents of their legal guardian in China

10. The Physical Examination Form for Foreigners

Applicants must undergo examinations strictly in accordance with the items required in the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form". The form is invalid if there are missing items, without attached photo of the applicant, paging seal on the photo, or signature and seal of the physician and hospital. The validity period of the examination result is 6 months.

12. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record

Applicants must submit a valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security institute, usually within 6 months prior to the application submission date. Texts in languages other than Chinese and English must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English version.
