1. Scholarship Overview

To promote mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people around the world, and to enhance communication and cooperation in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has established scholarships to support outstanding students and scholars from around the world to study or conduct research in Chinese universities. Approved by the Ministry of Education of China, Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) is an authorized institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship Program.

4. Scholarship Benefits and Contents

(1) Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, living expenses, and comprehensive medical insurance.

(2) Scholarship Contents

a. Tuition Fee

b. Accommodation: Free on-campus dormitory (double room) or an off-campus accommodation subsidy

c. Living Expenses:

   Master's students: 3,000 RMB per month

   Doctoral students: 3,500 RMB per month

d. Comprehensive Medical Insurance: 800 RMB per person per year, provided by the university.

5. Eligibility Requirements

(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good physical and mental health.

(2) Educational Background, Age, and Language Proficiency Requirements:

For Master's Applicants:

Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifications and excellent academic performance.

Age should generally not exceed 35 years.

Chinese proficiency should generally be HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above. Applicants with exceptional academic qualifications may be accepted with HSK Level 4 (180 points or above), and may be required to complete one year of Chinese language preparation, depending on the situation.

For Doctoral Applicants:

Must have a master's degree or equivalent qualifications and excellent academic performance.

Age should generally not exceed 40 years.

Chinese proficiency should generally be HSK Level 6 with a score of 180 or above. Applicants with exceptional academic qualifications may be accepted with HSK Level 5 (180 points or above), and may be required to complete one year of Chinese language preparation, depending on the situation.

(3) Applicants must meet the academic and other admission requirements set by SISU.

6. Application Process

(1) The applicant logs into the "Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System for International Students" and uploads the required application materials to submit the scholarship application. The code for SISU in the system is 10650.

(2) The applicant logs into the "Sichuan International Studies University International Students Service Platform"  for online application and submits the required materials.

(3) SISU will review the application materials, conduct professional exams/assessments, and, after evaluation by the scholarship review panel, issue a pre-admission notice to the selected candidates.

(4) SISU will recommend the selected candidates to the China Scholarship Council, which will organize expert evaluations and make the final selections based on merit.

(5) The deadline for the high-level graduate program (Chinese Government Scholarship Category B) application is February 28, 2025.

7. Application Documents

(1) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);

(2) Copy of Passport Home Page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;

(3) Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations;

(4) Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English;

(5) Language qualification certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must submit valid HSK reports in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements.

(6) A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor;

(7) Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad;

(8) A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

(9) Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
